TUK9A's Service Dogs 4 Veterans

 Program Overview:
Our dogs are either donated or purchased. We then match service dogs with veterans. These dogs are trained to help mitigate symptoms of PTSD, assist with mobility, and provide emotional support. By providing veterans with these life-changing companions, we aim to foster greater independence, restore confidence, and improve overall quality of life.

Eligibility:
Veterans who are eligible for the program typically meet the following criteria:

  • A documented service-related disability (physical or mental health conditions, such as PTSD, TBI, mobility impairments, or anxiety).
  • Honorable discharge from military service
  • A commitment to training and working with the service dog.
  • Ability to care for the service dog (housing, food, etc.)

How It Works:
1. Application Process: Veterans can apply through our website or by contacting our intake team. We’ll require medical documentation to verify the veteran’s condition.

2. Dog Training: Once accepted into the program, veterans are paired with a service dog.

3. Matching Process: Veterans are matched with a dog based on their specific needs, preferences, and lifestyle.

4. Training & Support: After the match, the dog is then trained for the veteran for their specific needs. Once the dog has completed training the veteran will continue to participate in training sessions with their new service dog. This ensures the veteran learns how to effectively work with their dog. Ongoing support is provided to ensure a successful partnership.

5. Follow-up Care: Continuous follow-up care is offered to address any issues that arise during the transition period, ensuring both the veteran and service dog adjust to their new roles.

Benefits of the Program:

  • Improved Mental Health: The service dog offers emotional support, helping reduce symptoms of PTSD and anxiety.
  •  Increased Independence: The dog aids with mobility and everyday tasks, allowing veterans to live more independently.
  •  Stronger Bond and Sense of Purpose: Veterans experience an improved quality of life by bonding with their service dog, leading to greater emotional stability.
  •  Social Support: Having a service dog opens up new avenues for social interaction and reduces isolation.
